On August 13th, 2025, at the invitation of the Department of Management Science and Engineering, East China University of Science and Technology (ECUST), Professor DONG Chuanwen from ESCP Business School delivered an academic lecture entitled "Decarbonizing Logistics in a Store-Based Retail System" to faculty and students of the School of Business. The lecture was hosted by Professor LI Ying from the Department of Management Science and Engineering.
In the lecture, Professor DONG Chuanwen systematically introduced his latest research findings on logistics decarbonization in store-based retail systems, with a focus on sharing the construction of game models and policy analysis covering a variety of typical logistics activities. The study found that under certain conditions, carbon taxes may prompt cost-sensitive retailers to reduce logistics emissions while cutting costs, but there are challenges in achieving this "win-win" outcome in practice. Based on the Berlin case and real data from two major retail chains in Germany, the study accurately estimated store density and revealed that for the cost-sensitive logistics industry, regulation-guided operations are more conducive to achieving both emission reduction and cost control.
Some faculty members and students from the Department of Management Science and Engineering attended the lecture. In the Q&A session, the participants had in-depth exchanges with Professor DONG Chuanwen on a number of topics, including "the collection method of carbon tax in the transportation link", "the differences between Chinese and German retail scenarios", and "the applicability of the research in the Chinese context". The academic lecture featured a strong academic atmosphere, and all participating faculty and students gained substantial insights.
