On September 22, 2019, the “Oliver Hart Research Center of Contracts and the Governance” named after Professor Oliver Hart at Harvard, the 2016 Nobel Prize winner in Economic Sciences, was established at East China University of Science and Technology. Dr. Du Huifang, Chairman of University Council, Professor Oliver Hart, Mr. Zhang Ruimin, Chairman of the Board of Directors and CEO of Haier Group, Ms. Lv Xiaohui, Member of the Standing Committee and Minister for Publicity of Shanghai Xuhui District Committee, and Mr. Fei Fangyu, Executive Director of the Oliver Hart Research Center of Contracts and the Governance, unveiled the site for the research center. Professor Oliver Hart and Mr. Zhang Ruimin gave the keynote speeches respectively. Dr. Li Tao, vice president of East China University of Science and Technology, hosted the opening ceremony.

With the support of Professor Oliver Hart and the experts in economics from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Fudan University and East China Normal University, the new center will focus on the frontier economics issues of universal significance in the world and the practical issues of economic reform with Chinese characteristics .Its key research topics will include digital economics, industrial organizations, corporate management and public governance mechanisms.

Professor Oliver Hart explained the development frontiers of corporate contract governance, the research theme and functional positioning of this research center on the topic of "New Methods of Contract Governance" .

Zhang Ruimin gave a keynote speech on the corporate governance model in the era of digital economy under the theme of "Chain Group Win-Win Evolutionary Ecology: A New Paradigm under RenDanHeYi Thinking".

Economists' Panel

Professor Hart and scholars from East China University of Science and Technology, Fudan University, Shanghai Jiaotong University, East China Normal University, Shanghai Blockchain Technology Research Center and other institutions attended the Economists' Panel. A series of related issues, such as the organizational form of enterprises, contract governance and property rights models in the digital economy era were discussed.

Dr. Jin Yaochu, Dean of the Artificial Intelligence Interdisciplinary Research Institute of East China University of Science and Technology, gave a keynote speech on "Towards Secure AI: Robust and Privacy Preserving Machine Learning", Mr. Jin Jian, director of the Institute of Industrial Internet and Internet of Things, China Academy of Information and Communications Technology, delivered a keynote speech titled "Smart ID Card in Industrial Internet", Mr. Shen Qi, Deputy General Manager of Zhida Technology Co., Ltd., delivered a keynote speech on "Scenario Application of 'Unmanned Driving + Automatic Charging' under the Background of Industry 4.0"; Ms. Zhang Tingting, Business Director of Ouyeel, Baowu Group, gave a keynote speech on the topic of "Financial Practice and Exploration of Baowu Industry". In addition, Ma Xiaofeng, Jin Jian, Zhang Tingting, Shen Qi, Dr. Feng Xiang, Professor of the School of Information Science and Engineering,ECUST, Dr. Yu Lihong, Professor of the School of Business, ECUST, and Mr. Wang Sanming, Chairman of Anyuan Technology shared and discussed the application and effects of machine learning and blockchain in enterprises in the digital economy era at the roundtable forum.
