On December 6^th, 2023, Mr. LIAO Jinyu, Manager of Academic Cooperation Department of Summer Programmes of Oriel College, University of Oxford, visited ECUST School of Business. Dr. PENG Zeyu, Director of the International Office, and Dr. YE Sheng, Executive Director of the International Exchange Programmes warmly welcomed the guest. The two sides had an in-depth exchange with each other on the summer exchange programmes for students that have already been carried out by both sides as well as the possibilities of further cooperation.

Mr. LIAO Jin Yu introduced the history and educational characteristics of Oriel College, University of Oxford. As one of the oldest colleges of the University of Oxford, Oriel College has been committed to providing comprehensive student support and services since it was founded by King Edward II of England in 1326, emphasizing the importance of notified education and small class sizes, and aiming to create a positive, challenging and supportive educational environment for students. He also invited WU Yitong, a student from the Department of Finance, to share his experience in the Oxford University Summer Programme. WU Yitong spoke highly of the programme’s academic enhancement and rich extracurricular activities, and highlighted the positive impact this experience had on his master’s studies.

Dr. PENG Zeyu introduced the development process and important achievements of ECUST Business School in recent years. He mentioned that the School had been accredited by AMBA&BGA and AACSB, and was actively preparing for EQUIS accreditation. He emphasized that international exchange is an important part of the strategic development of the School of Business, and the School has established in-depth cooperative relationships with many top international institutions of higher education. Dr. PENG Zeyu said that ECUST School of Business values the personal development of students, and through the provision of an academic mentorship system and an innovative action learning pedagogy, students are able to have earlier exposure to cutting-edge research and have the opportunities to learn profoundly about actual corporate activities, laying a solid foundation for their future academic and professional development.

Subsequently, the two sides had profound exchanges on a variety of cooperation possibilities for undergraduates, graduates as well as doctoral students, and explored opportunities for short-term and long-term cooperation. Dr. PENG Zeyu also introduced Oliver Hart Research Centre of Contracts and Governance, in cooperation with Prof. Oliver Hart of Harvard University, 2016 Nobel Laureate in Economics, and expressed his wish of inviting professors from Oxford to carry out academic exchanges and cooperation in the School. Mr. LIAO Jinyu responded positively by saying that he would facilitate substantive cooperation between the two sides.

The meeting is based on the long-term and cordial partnership between the two sides, in which both sides agreed to further strengthen communication and exchange. Since 2019, East China University of Science and Technology and Oriel College, University of Oxford have established a solid cooperative relationship, and this visit would undoubtedly further strengthen the cooperation between the two, laying a solid foundation for future in-depth cooperation.
