At present, the world is undergoing unprecedented changes in a century, accelerating the evolution of a profound restructuring of the global economic and trade landscape. Amidst an international landscape marked by intertwined turmoil and uncertainty, geopolitical rivalries have intensified, globalization faces headwinds, and unilateralism and trade protectionism have resurged. The multilateral trading system and global industrial and supply chains are confronting unprecedented risks and challenges. Simultaneously, emerging sectors such as the digital economy and green economy are rapidly rising, while digital technologies like big data and artificial intelligence are advancing at an unprecedented pace, accelerating the transformation of traditional trade models and the international trade rules system.

Facing this complex and challenging environment, the report of the 20th CPC National Congress provided clear guidance on “advancing high-level opening-up” and “building an open world economy.” The 2025 Central Economic Work Conference made important deployments on orderly expanding autonomous and unilateral opening-up, actively developing trade in services, green trade, and digital trade, continuously building the “Invest in China” brand, and steadily advancing the opening-up of the service sector. These provide a crucial basis for China to uphold high-level opening-up and promote high-quality development. The year 2025 marks both the conclusion of the 14th Five-Year Plan and the planning phase for the 15th Five-Year Plan. Against this backdrop, how to seize new opportunities for openness and cooperation amid the reshaping of the global economic and trade landscape, steadily expand higher-level institutional openness, and cultivate new momentum and advantages for opening up has become an urgent theoretical and practical issue requiring research.

In anticipation of the 8th China International Import Expo and to serve national strategic objectives, the “2025 International Import Trade Forum” will be held at East China University of Science and Technology on November 8, 2025. This year's forum theme is: A New Vision for High-Level Open Trade in the Context of Multilateral Order. Participants will jointly explore the opportunities and challenges facing China's import and export trade against the backdrop of multilateral order, trade barriers, and the new development paradigm.
