Title: Publishing in Top Journals: A Chinese Scholar's Perspective

Synopsis:

  In this talk, I will present my views on the needs of top information systems journals and how Chinese scholars can capitalize on their strengths to publish in such journals. First, I will define what research productivity is. Then, I will outline the factors that affect an individual's research productivity, drawing on previous research in various disciplines. Next, I will describe what constitutes a “good paper” in the eyes of journal editors (the demand side) and what advantages Asian or Chinese scholars have in meeting the needs of these editors (the supply side). Finally, I will offer my thoughts on a question that is increasingly being asked: 'What is the future of IS research in economics?

Introduction to the Lecturer:

  Kai H. Lim is Chair Professor of Information Technology Innovation and Management at the School of Business, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU). He was a senior editor of MIS Quarterly (2011-2016) and an editorial board member of ISR, MISQ and JAIS. His research has been published in top journals such as MIS Quarterly, ISR, JMIS and JAIS. Prior to joining PolyU, he taught at City University of Hong Kong, Case Western Reserve University, and University of Hawaii. His research interests include e-healthcare, cross-cultural issues related to information systems management, digital transformation, IT-enabled business strategies, e-commerce, social media and human-computer interaction. He has received a number of teaching and research awards, including the 2002/03 CityU All-University Excellence in Teaching Award and the 2020/21 CityU All-University Excellence in Research Award. He is also an Honorary Professor of Fudan University, China and a member of the Association for Information Systems.
