Two Achievements Won Shanghai Excellent Teaching Achievement Award

Recently, Shanghai Municipal Education Commission announced the 2022 Shanghai Excellent Teaching Achievement Award List, and 28 teaching achievements declared by East China University of Science and Technology (ECUST) as the main completing institution were approved. The Reform and Practice of Value-led and Action Learning-driven Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education Model in Science and Technology Universities declared by the School of Business won the first prize of Graduate Teaching Achievement Award; the Creation and Practice of "Five New" Talent Cultivation System in Management Science and Engineering won the first prize of Undergraduate Teaching Achievement Award.

Established by the Shanghai Municipal People's Government and evaluated once every four years, the Shanghai Municipal Teaching Achievement Award is the highest award in the field of education in Shanghai, aiming to comprehensively summarize and demonstrate the experience and achievements made in the field of education in Shanghai in recent years, motivate the institutions and individuals who have made achievements, give play to the leading role of teaching achievements in teaching practice, reform and research, and improve the quality of education and teaching and talent cultivation. The selection and commendation of higher education teaching achievements is a review and display of the achievements of talent cultivation and education teaching reform in colleges and universities.

Reform and Practice of Value-led and Action Learning-driven Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education Model in Science and Technology Universities

Introduction

This project gives full play to the distinctive engineering characteristics of ECUST and the advantages of action learning education in the past 10 years, integrates the teaching changes of new engineering and new business courses, breaks the invisible disciplinary barriers between engineering and business, forms innovative and entrepreneurial "teams" of undergraduate and doctoral students from different disciplines for training, enhances entrepreneurial spirit and basic ability training, and becomes a gas pedal for combining engineering research projects with entrepreneurship. In addition, the teaching process emphasizes the co-creation and win-win situation of social value and commercial value, avoiding the excessive pursuit of commercial interests at the expense of social interests and long-term development. This model addresses the prominent problems of traditional innovation and entrepreneurship education, such as pursuit of short-term business interests, lack of articulation between theory and practice, invisible disciplinary barriers, segregation of education at different levels of undergraduate and doctoral degrees, and weak integration of production and education, by solving real entrepreneurial problems through team learning methods and building highly simulated entrepreneurial situations to enhance the learning experience.

In specific implementation, the action learning approach is used to bridge the theoretical learning and entrepreneurial practice, and a platform for interaction and exchange between engineering and business students is constructed with the help of innovation and entrepreneurship courses, practice projects and entrepreneurship competitions. Through innovation and entrepreneurship team-based learning and interaction, students develop an entrepreneurial mindset and a knowledge structure of both technology and management, and ultimately enhance their innovation and entrepreneurship practical skills based on innovation and entrepreneurship practice, realizing a multi-dimensional training of "thinking-knowledge-ability" while paying great attention to long-term social value. The emphasis on action learning style of questioning and reflection, practical training oriented to real problems, etc. in institutions with engineering characteristics can motivate students to solve major realistic problems based on innovation and entrepreneurship, help students keep an eye on national industrial policies and international competitive environment, enhance the integration of industry and education and research, realize the convergence of various talents, stimulate entrepreneurship and accelerate the entrepreneurial process in the future, and combine entrepreneurship with national strategies and global development trends.

Creation and Practice of "Five New" Talent Cultivation System in Management Science and Engineering

Introduction

Relying on its engineering characteristics, the university follows the development of new technologies such as IoT, AI and big data, focuses on the "five new" talent cultivation system of "new objectives, new course groups, new platforms, new faculty and new mechanisms", connects business and technology (B+T), and continuously promotes the innovation and practice of management science and engineering talent cultivation system in all aspects and processes.

After years of creative reform and integration practice, remarkable results have been achieved. ① Three undergraduate majors under the Department, "Information Management and Information System", "Logistics Management" and "Engineering Management", have been approved as national first-class undergraduate majors. ② The major "Logistics Management" received an A+ in the 2021 and 2022 Shanghai Ranking's Major Ranking of Chinese Universities, and the majors "Information Management and Information System" and "Engineering Management" received an A. ③ Every year, some undergraduates win national and provincial awards in the "Innovation, Creativity and Entrepreneurship", "Internet+" and "Challenge Cup Innovation and Entrepreneurship" competitions. ④ Doctoral and master's students consistently publish academic research papers in high quality journals in China and abroad, such as POM, EJOR, IJPE and the Journal of Management Sciences in China.
